Gloria Gene Watson, age 97, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Swan Place Assisted Living in Carroll.
A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, IA, with Rev. Dean McPherson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of the Midwest and may be mailed to: Hospice of the Midwest c/o Gloria Watson – 103 N. 4th Str. Guthrie Center, IA 50115.

Gloria was born on December 20, 1924 in Chicago, IL. She was the daughter of Clifton and Genevieve (Schrage) Huenger. Gloria grew up in Whiting, IN and graduated from Whiting High School in 1942. Following high school, Gloria attended the University of Iowa and graduated with Liberal Arts degree in 1946. She was in the Chi Omega Sorority while going to Iowa and was president of her chapter. She was also the first female cheerleader at the University of Iowa. Gloria worked as a dancer at the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago following college. She was married to her college sweetheart on January 5, 1952 at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic. The couple lived in Atlantic for five years before moving to Ft. Worth, TX where Dick worked for Globe Laboratories and Gloria was a homemaker. The couple moved to Carroll in 1963 where they raised their family. Gloria was very involved in leadership roles in the Girl Scouts Lakota Council and First United Methodist Church. She also owned and operated Gloria’s School of Dance for many years. Gloria was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She enjoyed sewing, golfing, spending time with friends, but most of all being with her family.
Gloria is survived by a son Brad Watson and his wife Margaret of Dallas, TX, a daughter Virginia Cannon and her husband Rick of St. Petersburg, FL; five grandchildren: Shayne Rominger (Tim), Brooke Grasso, Tommy Cannon, Eleanor Watson, and Emily Watson; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; a son Greg in 2008; a grandson Ryan Cannon in 2005; her sister Virginia Everett (Peter); and her husband Richard “Dick” Watson in 2017.
