Sauk Rail Trail Association Looks To Raise $25K At Thursday’s Fundraiser To Leverage Anonymous Matching Donation

Members of the Sauk Rail Trail Association are inviting local bicyclists to Kerp’s Tavern tomorrow (Thursday) to help them repave the section of path between Carroll and Maple River. The Sauk Rail Trail opened over a decade ago. Phil Phillips, an association member, says they have been working to pave the entire 33-mile path for years. Most of the trail is now concrete, but this final stretch is paved with asphalt.

Cost estimates show the project could run as high as $2 million for the four-mile stretch. Phillips says this would typically be out of reach for the association, but they were fortunate to receive several grants and donations to get them the bulk of the way there.

Another association member, Ken Hoevelkamp, says they hope to raise at least $25,000 at Thursday’s fundraiser. They landed on that figure thanks to a generous gift from an anonymous donor who pledged to match contributions up to that level. He says they have over $6,000 worth of prizes for attendees to give away at Kerp’s with food, drinks, and more available.

Supporters can purchase tickets during the event or from association members through the contact information included with this story on our website for $20 each, $50 for three tickets, or $100 for seven. The Sauk Rail Trail fundraiser at Kerp’s Tavern opens at 5:30 p.m. Raffle drawings are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
