The Carroll County Board of Supervisors has scheduled a public hearing for their Oct. 10 meeting as they prepare to move forward with their first budget amendment for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. Carroll County Auditor Kourtney Payer says the proposed amendment includes various budgetary adjustments, including updates to the county’s estimated FY23 revenues.
Payer adds the rest of the amendment is correcting for expenditures that had been budgeted in FY22 but did not occur until FY23 or including spending that was added after the certified FY23 budget was finalized. Some examples include ambulance assistance for the City of Templeton, the first half of a $50,000 pledge to support the City of Carroll’s Merchants Park improvement project, salary corrections, new ballot-counting equipment, and other similar items. Payer explains the overall effect on the county’s budget if the amendment is approved.
According to the Iowa Department of Management, Carroll County’s initial FY23 budget showed projected revenues of $26.33 million and projected expenditures of $29.93 million. Iowa law requires counties to host a public hearing before formally amending an approved budget. The Carroll County Board of Supervisors will review and consider approval of the amendment following the hearing scheduled for their Monday, Oct. 10 meeting.
