Rosemary “Rosie” Schuler of Carroll

Rosemary “Rosie” Schuler, age 93, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

     Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll.  Lector for the Mass will be her son Jeff Schuler.  Gift bearers will be her grandchildren.  Eucharistic Minister will be her daughter Vickie Duff.  Casket bearers will be John Jorgensen, Larry Riesenberg, Jake Schultes, and Jeff Schuler.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

     A Rosary will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll at 5:00 P.M. on Thursday with visitation following from 5:30 – 7:00 P.M.  The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the Mass.

    Rosie was born on May 7, 1929 in Breda, IA, and she was the daughter of Fred and Emma (Geier) Meister.  She grew up on a farm near Breda and attended country school, St. Bernard’s Grade School, and St. Bernard’s High School. Following high school she moved to Kansas with her sister for two years where she met her future husband Al Schuler. Rosie and Al were married on November 21, 1949 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda by the late Rev. LeRoy Frank. The couple made their home in Carroll where Rosie worked for Juergens Produce and Feed.  She later worked for Gamble’s as a cashier until it closed. They also owned and operated a rooming house in Carroll for many years called Schuler Rooms. Rosie worked as a writer for the Des Moines Register for 38 years. She did volunteer work at the local schools, election polling sites, and her church.  Rosie enjoyed flowers, crocheting, playing cards, playing the organ, and spending time with her family and many good friends. In her later years she and Al enjoyed traveling to 49 states, Canada, Mexico, and Ireland.

     Rosie is survived by two daughters: Vickie Duff and her husband Les of Carroll and Kristie Jorgensen and her husband John of Carroll; a son Jeff Schuler and his wife Jeri of Carroll; five grandchildren: Becky Duff, David Duff, Katie Schuler, Stefanie Jorgensen, and Kelly Schultes (Jake); three great-grandchildren: Nolan, Landon, and Felicity; a sister-in-law Jeanne Schuler of Nortonville, KS, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rosie was preceded in death by her husband Al in 2013; her parents Fred and Emma Meister; her father and mother-in-law Urban and Dora Schuler; three sisters: Dorothy Harlow, Mardell Roth, and Donna Peterson;  and a brother Darwin Meister.
