Flags Ordered To Half-Staff Wednesday For Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has ordered flags in Iowa to half-staff tomorrow (Wednesday) in honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. Flags will be lowered from sunrise to sunset on Dec. 7 to mark the Japanese attack that launched the nation’s mobilization and involvement in World War II. Reynolds says, “Still more than 80 years after the horrific attack that took place in Pearl Harbor, killing thousands of Americans, it’s a somber reminder of the selfless sacrifices of our men and women in uniform. May we always honor and remember the lives lost and those injured on that harrowing day and forever share our gratitude for their service and our freedoms.” Flags will be lowered on the State Capitol Building, flag displays in the Capitol Complex, and all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties, and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly their flags at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect. Gov. Reynolds’ order was issued in conjunction with a proclamation from President Joe Biden to lower all U.S. flags Wednesday for Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
