Area housing trust funds have been awarded nearly $800,000 from the Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) to support ongoing efforts to meet housing needs in the communities they serve. Council of Governments Housing, Inc., which includes Audubon, Carroll, Crawford, Greene, Guthrie, and Sac Counties, received $378,349, and the Heart of Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund, which covers six counties, including Calhoun, received $411,939. Housing Specialist Ashley Owen says these grants are a boon for their local programs.
Assistance varies based on county of residence, household size, and income level. For Audubon, Crawford, Greene, and Sac Counties, income limitations run from as little as $26,000 to as much as $99,935, combined with other factors. Carroll County ranges from $26,670 to $102,235, while Guthrie County is between $29,550 and $113,275. While many households might be eligible, Owen says they have a waiting list.
Local Assistance Director Chris Whitaker says the programs’ impact can be seen in communities throughout their region.
Owen adds they are hoping to assist one or two more households per county each year with this latest round of funding. More than $11 million was awarded to 26 local housing trust funds throughout the state by the IFA earlier this week. Learn more at www.region12cog.org/cog-housing/.
