CCSD Superintendent Shares Highlights From Friday’s State Of The District Presentation

Last week, the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) hosted its first “State of the District” presentation. On Friday, Dec. 9, officials invited community and business leaders to join them at 6:30 a.m. at Des Moines Area Community College Carroll Campus to hear directly from administrators. Superintendent Dr. Casey Berlau and other school leaders felt this would be a new and different way to communicate with stakeholders.

Friday’s State of the District was an invitation-only presentation featuring leaders from surrounding communities, Chamber of Commerce representatives, county officials, and more. Berlau notes it is critical these individuals are aware of what is happening at CCSD.

According to Berlau, one of the key points he made concerned the district’s updated vision and mission statements.

Another significant portion of Friday’s presentation is CCSD’s fiscal position. Berlau says Carroll is fortunate to have a great tax base with a variety of commercial, agricultural, and residential properties to draw from, which helps keep the district’s overall levy near the lowest in the state.

Berlau says they also looked ahead to what is coming down the pike for the district, specifically regarding district facilities.

Berlau shared the highlights of the State of the District on Tuesday morning on KCIM. The full interview is included below. Berlau anticipates the State of the District presentation will become an annual event for stakeholders to attend in future years.
