Carroll Man Sentenced To Prison For Nov. Burglary; Parole From Previous Conviction Revoked

A Carroll man arrested in November for breaking into a home and threatening the occupant has been sentenced to prison. Forty-eight-year-old Darren Joseph Cox was arrested Thursday, Nov. 10 by the Carroll Police Department after he kicked in the door of a residence in the 700 block of Granada Road and smashed several glass panes, causing the resident to fear for their life. Cox fled the scene before authorities arrived and was arrested a short time later in the 200 block of W. 11th Street. He pled guilty on Monday to third-degree burglary, a Class D felony, and was sentenced to up to five years in the custody of the Iowa Department of Corrections. The term will be served concurrently with what remains of a 10-year sentence handed down following a 2018 conviction for a controlled substance violation that Cox was on parole from when the burglary occurred.
