Richard “Dick” Clayton Brotherson, age 72, of Breda, IA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his family.
A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll where there will be a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. with Pastor Roger Carlisle officiating.
A private funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. Casket bearers will be Matt Brotherson, Ron Johnson, John Hoffmann, Jake Johnson, Devin Conover, and Derek Conover. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery.
Dick was born on July 31, 1950 in Denison, IA, and he was the son of Clayton and Edna (Auen) Brotherson. He grew up on a farm near Breda and graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1968. Dick enlisted in the National Guard following high school and served four years. He farmed his family’s farm and worked at Haley Equipment as a mechanic and Lakeside Express as a truck driver. He was married to Donna Martens on September 8, 1973. Dick enjoyed reading, visiting with friends, fixing most anything, giving his dog Belle rides in his pickup, and spending time with his family.
Dick is survived by his wife Donna of Breda; his son Travis Brotherson (Kristi) of Holstein; two grandsons: Devin Conover (Ashley) and Derek Conover (Elizabeth); three great-grandchildren: Maya, Addison, and Rory, and one on the way; two sisters-in-law Carolyn Johnson and Susanne Brotherson both of Carroll; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Edna Brotherson; his father and mother-in-law Leonard and Marrola Martens; a brother Curt Brotherson; a son Scott Brotherson; a brother-in-law Eugene Johnson; and a brother in infancy.
