Four teenagers and an adult were injured Sunday evening at the Cass County Fair in Atlantic when an amusement ride malfunctioned. At approximately 7:30 p.m. an arm on “The Octopus” suffered a mechanical failure that brought it crashing to the ground. A woman along with one male and one female teenager were transported to Cass County Hospital by ambulance. An additional two teenage males were transported to the hospital by private vehicle. The non-life threatening injuries included complaints of neck, back and shoulder pain and multiple bruises. The Cass County Fair Board has been in contact with the Iowa State Division of Labor regarding the incident. The Octopus is closed pending further investigation and an inspection.
