Regional Unemployment Numbers Increase

The seven-county Western Iowa Advantage region saw an across-the-board increase in unemployment rates from May to June of this year, with Sac County seeing the biggest jump. Iowa Workforce Development released a report showing Sac’s numbers increased from 2.4 percent in May to 3.2 percent in June. Carroll and Greene Counties followed closely behind with over a half a percent increases. Carroll County’s unemployment rate rose from 2.5 percent in May to 3.1 percent in June and Greene increased from 3.4 percent to 4. Crawford County had been recording decreases in their higher than normal unemployment rate over the first several months of the year, but they also took a bounce upward over May with an increase from 4.8 percent to 5.3. Both Audubon and Guthrie Counties reported just shy of a half percent bump and Adair County saw the least amount of change with an increase from 2.9 to 3.1 percent.
