Flags Ordered To Half-Staff Friday For Former UI President, Willard Boyd

Governor Kim Reynolds has ordered flags in Iowa to be flown at half-staff today (Friday) in honor of the late Willard “Sandy” Boyd, former President of the University of Iowa. Boyd led the university from 1969 to 1981 and again served as interim president in 2002 and 2003. He passed away last December at the age of 95, and a memorial service is being held in his honor Friday afternoon at the University of Iowa’s Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City. In a statement, Governor Reynolds praised Boyd’s dedication and passion for the University of Iowa, noting that his legacy will continue to impact the campus and community. During his 65 years with the University of Iowa, Boyd helped shape and transform Iowa’s higher education system. The order for flags to be flown at half-staff is effective from sunrise to sunset today (Friday) and applies to the State Capitol Building, the Capitol Complex flag displays, and all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state. Governor Reynolds encourages individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties, and other government subdivisions to also fly their flags at half-staff for the same duration as a sign of respect.
