Ruth Ann Subbert of Carroll

Ruth Ann (Zeller) Subbert, age 93, of Carroll, Iowa passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at her home in Carroll with her children and special friends beside her.

    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, April 24, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale with Pastor Robert Wagner officiating.  Organist for the service will be Ed Ludwig.  Casket bearers will be Alvin Koren, John Kennebeck, Duane Kruse, Max Wenck, Bruce Subbert, and Ron Subbert.  Honorary casket bearers will be Ron Roe, Larry Feltner, and Robert Subbert.   Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale.

   Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Sunday, April 23, 2023 where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M.  The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M.

Born on July 6, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri, she was the daughter of Rudolph and Clara (Junghans) Zeller. She was baptized on August 11,1929 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 2, 1944.
Ruth was married to Lester Luverne Subbert on November 30, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale, Iowa with Pastor Rudolf Herrmann officiating. Lester preceded her in death after 60 plus loving years of marriage on May 25, 2008.  She met Lester at her sister, Lorraine’s wedding, in St. Louis in July of 1947. She decided to move to Iowa where her sister was living and then married Les 5 months later; “Love at first sight.”
She worked for Bill Farner as a nanny when coming to Carroll in 1947 and later graded eggs for 5 years at a Carroll candling plant. She worked for the Carroll Public School System as a cook, kitchen supervisor and as the Head Food Supervisor for a total of 29 years until retiring in 1994 to spend more time at home with her husband.
Ruth thoroughly enjoyed working with her flowers and working in the yard and garden. She loved playing ball with her grandchildren in the back yard and playing cards, primarily pinochle with friends and relatives.  Christmas was always a very special, happy time when all the family came home to visit for many, many years. She loved making sweet cinnamon rolls for the family and also giving them to many friends and neighbors. She enjoyed fishing with Les and spending Easter with all the family at her daughters and vacationing with her son and grandchildren making many wonderful memories. She loved dogs and had them all her married life.
Surviving are her daughter Sandra R. Koren and her husband Steve of Kansas City, Missouri; a son Thomas G. Subbert and his wife Diane (Haverman) of Bartonville, Illinois; and a son Keith A. Subbert, who lives at home in Carroll, Iowa.  The following grandchildren: Michael Subbert and his wife Julie, Brian Subbert and his wife Leann, Jay Subbert and his wife Cari, Chad Koren and his wife Renee, Beth (Koren) Campos and her husband Ty and the following great grandchildren: Carson, Riley, Haeley, Laina, Kambelle, Hannah, Benjamin, Lucas, Samantha, Jordan,  Aubree, Andon, Avalee and Kellan.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lester, her parents,  a sister Lorraine Wenck and her husband Vernon.
