One Killed, Another Injured In Rollover Accident Near Lake View Sunday Evening

One person was killed and another seriously injured after a vehicle crashed into the waters last night (Sunday) near the Black Hawk Lake Wildlife Management Area south of Lake View. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m. on Perkins Avenue near the intersection with 350th Street. Authorities say 22-year-old Oliver Massman of Holmen, Wisc. was traveling southbound in a 2014 Volkswagen Passat when the vehicle entered the west ditch. It proceeded up the embankment, struck and broke an electrical pole, collided with a tree, then overturned, coming to rest in the pond. Massman was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger, 22-year-old Ean Marker of Waupaca, Wisc., was transported to Loring Hospital in Sac City by Sac County Emergency Medical Services. Marker was later airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City in critical condition. Authorities say speed and alcohol were contributing factors in Sunday’s fatal accident. The Sac County Sheriff’s Office, Lake View Police Department, and several local fire departments also assisted at the scene.
