Jean Patrick, age 92, formerly of Carroll, Iowa died Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Teal Creek Assisted Living in Edmond, Oklahoma.
A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Please join Jean’s family for refreshments at the Sharp Center following the visitation.
Graveside Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Merle Hay Cemetery in Glidden.

Born in rural Scranton, Iowa, March 18, 1931 to Oscar and Mary (Lane) Moore. Jean attended country school #9 until March of third grade when the family moved to Glidden , Iowa.
Jean graduated from Glidden High School, with the class of 1948. She aspired to be a nurse and take training in Carroll, Iowa but had rheumatic fever at ages 10 and 15 and her mother felt she would be unable to lift patients. Jean started working at Dr. Lindsay’s office in Glidden. She also worked at the creamery as an egg candler.
Jean would move to Des Moines, Iowa, where she lived at Esther Hall, a Methodist home for working girls. She was employed at the Des Moines Water Works for about 15 months before moving back to Glidden with her parents, and was married to Delbert Patrick of Coon Rapids on March 25, 1951. Delbert was in the Army and was sent to Korea nine days after their marriage.
Delbert returned home to Carroll in August 1952 and was employed at the Carroll Herald Office as Circulation Manager. A son, David, was born October 1, 1952, and another son, Dennis, was born March 11, 1955.
Jean was a stay-at-home mother until the younger son started school and then worked part time as an Avon Representative. The family moved to Logansport, Indiana in 1964, where Jean worked as a secretary. They moved to Ohio for a short time and returned to Carroll in 1967. Jean worked at a shoe store, doctor’s office, as teacher’s secretary at Carroll High School, and at a Carroll bank. They moved to Des Moines in 1987, where Jean attended computer school before beginning work at Liberty Mutual as a claims processor. She retired from Liberty Mutual in 1992.
Jean is a member of the West Des Moines Christian Church and member of the BSP Sorority.
In 1993, younger son Dennis was killed in the crash of a life flight aircraft while working as a paramedic.
She is survived by her son David Patrick. Jean has 2 living grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Her husband died November 8, 2007. Jean has an older sister, Juanita Gilroy, who currently lives in Jefferson, Iowa.
