Lake City officials are asking residents to fill out a quick survey that will potentially help them pay for new water systems in the community. The city needs to drill two freshwater wells to ensure drinking water is meeting current demand. According to Administrator Jacob Matthews, the city plans to use a Community Development Block Grant (CDGB) to help pay for the project if approved. Matthews adds this grant will help them plan for future growth and demand.
Matthews says the city is in the early stages of the project. The CDGB program is very competitive, and applications are awarded based on need, with an emphasis on community income levels. Matthews says to qualify for the grant, the city needs support from the community.
To qualify for the grant, the city must have a low-to-moderate income (LMI) of 51 percent or more. Matthews says it will take residents two minutes to fill out. If the city is approved, the grant will pay for a substantial amount of the project. It is unclear at this time how much the project as a whole will cost. Surveys need to be returned to city hall by May 19. Individuals with any questions can contact Matthews at 712-640-6401.
