Lyle, the son of Lester and Viola (Bruning) Schleisman was born on November 2, 1933 in Carroll, Iowa.  He grew up near Lidderdale and graduated from Carroll High School in 1951, while in high school Lyle was a gifted long-distance runner, participating in the Drake Relays.  Following high school Lyle honorably served in the United States Army.  Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the area.

On June 14, 1955, Lyle was united in marriage to Lillian Kanne at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.  The couple resided near Lidderdale where they were engaged in grain and livestock farming. Lyle was a true steward of the land.  He always looked forward to the fall and the rewards the harvest would bring to him.  This continued after his retirement where he would watch all the other farmers bring their harvest into the Elevator.

Lyle enjoyed playing cards, home butchering, and taking naps, often under the combine during harvest time.  He also enjoyed playing slow-pitch, dancing, and visiting with others at coffee in Lidderdale.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family at the lake home at Black Hawk Lake.  Lyle was a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale and current member of St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll.

Lyle is survived by his children: Deb (Jim) Gemberling of Sloan, Cindy (Bill) Barkmeier of Lake City, Yvonne Doty (special friend Rob Burley) of Lake City, Les (Deb) Schleisman of Lake City, and Brad (Missy) Schleisman of Lidderdale; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Dennis (Norma) Schleisman of Carroll, Ted (Jean) Schleisman of Table Rock Lake, MO, June Bernholtz of Carroll; sisters-in-law: Joan Schleisman of Marshalltown, and Marie Wernimont of Carroll, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

Lyle is preceded in death by his wife Lillian in 2015; sons Doug Schleisman and Fr. Jeff Schleisman; great-granddaughter, Harper Gemberling; a grandson-in-law: Todd Irwin; brother, Lowell Schleisman, sister-in-law: Joan H. Schleisman, brother-in-law: Glen Bernholtz.
