Five area fire departments responded to a large hay fire on the Audubon and Carroll County line south of Manning yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon. According to Fire Chief Bob Barsby, the Manning Fire Department was dispatched to 1130 100th Street, just east of the Puck Enterprises facility, at approximately 4:01 p.m. in response to a fire in a large square bale storage area. Due to the plentiful fuel, the Templeton, Manilla, Irwin, and Kimballton Fire Departments were also called in to assist. Crews were on the scene for nearly four hours and were able to extinguish the blaze, but not before a nearby shed was also destroyed.
