RAGBRAI Committee Invites Residents To Open Their Homes, Yards To RAGBRAI Teams

Only three weeks remain until tens of thousands of RAGBRAIers make their way to Carroll for the iconic bike ride across Iowa, and local organizers say finding a place to house all those people is proving to be a challenge. Chamber Executive Director Kimberly Tiefenthaler says finding space for riders is always tricky for overnight host communities, but the ride’s 50th anniversary is creating additional challenges.

There may be some trepidation about hosting strangers, but Tiefenthaler says most of the people looking for housing are just looking for a place to sleep and park their equipment.

She adds many of the requests are of a similar nature. Tiefenthaler says very little is required from those who volunteer to host.

Riders will not be hanging around much on Tuesday morning, either. The RAGBRAI route heads east out of Carroll along Highway 30, and officials will want to limit closure times on that busy stretch of road to as short as possible. People interested in hosting are encouraged to log on to www.carrollRAGBRAI.com and register their homes as available. Those with questions can contact the chamber directly by calling 712-792-4383.
