Carroll Mayor, Mark Beardmore, announced at last night’s (Monday) meeting that his first term as mayor will be his last. Beardmore says the decision not to run again was not an easy one.
In a written statement released following Monday’s meeting, Beardmore said, “As for my reasoning, I want that to remain private for now. Those who know me best easily understand.” Beardmore was elected in November 2021 and assumed office on Jan. 1, 2022. He joined the city council with three other new councilmembers: JJ Schreck in the at-large seat, Kyle Bauer in Ward 3, and Tom Bordenaro in Ward 1. Beardmore says his last months in office won’t go idly by.
As for what comes next for Beardmore, he says, “God has plans for me that will soon include only my wife, daughters, extended family, and friends. I aim to maximize those relationships to their fullest extent.” Other seats on the ballot for the Nov. 7 election include the Ward Two position, currently held by Misty Boes. Boes has announced she is not seeking reelection, and former city councilman Jerry Fleshner has formally announced his intention to run. Ward 4 Councilwoman Carolyn Siemann and At-Large Councilman LaVern Dirkx have announced their plans to run again. The candidate filing period for individuals interested in running for elected city and school board positions is open from Monday, Aug. 28, through Thursday, Sept. 21, at 5 p.m. A link to the Iowa Secretary of State’s website with more information for potential candidates is included below.
