Five local farm families have been recognized for their outstanding dedication to conservation with the 2023 Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award. The honors were presented last Wednesday during the Iowa State Fair by Gov. Kim Reynolds, Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg, Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Director Kayla Lyon. Reynolds says, “The Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award recognizes the farmers who have made stewardship a priority. Their commitment to protecting, preserving, and restoring Iowa’s natural resources will ensure that future generations can enjoy the benefits of healthy soils and improved water quality for decades to come.” Local recipients include: Rusty and Karen Corderman and Jasen and Jen Tiefenthaler of Sac County; Perry and Stacy Corey of Calhoun County; and John and Ione Koster and Ryan and Tarin Tiefenthaler of Carroll County. To date, 777 Iowa farm families have been recognized since the award’s creation in 2012. The complete list of this year’s winners is included below.
