Western Iowa Farmer Uninjured but Combine a Total loss

A western Iowa farmer was uninjured but his combine was destroyed by an equipment fire Saturday afternoon. The Westside and Arcadia Fire Departments were dispatched to calls of a combine on fire at West Highway 30 and Aspen Ave. Crews arrived about 1:00 p. m. to find the machinery ablaze. Firefighters spent roughly an hour and a half putting the fire out. Nearby farmers were able to disc the area to prevent the fire from spreading. This was one of more than half a dozen field fires in the Carroll Broadcasting listening area over the weekend. Incidents like this serve as a reminder to all farmers, grain cart drivers, farm hands and truck drivers that during harvest it’s always a good idea to keep an easily accessible fire extinquisher in your cab.
