Casie Forke-Burke is one of the seven candidates who have filed to run for one of the three open seats on the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education. Forke-Burke says there are many reasons to run for elected office, and for her, it is to ensure her four kids and their peers receive the best educational experience possible.
Forke-Burke grew up in Carroll and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School. She left the community briefly to attend school at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. She and her husband, Brad, returned to Carroll to raise their family and have been here ever since. She now runs her own pet grooming business and has done so for the last several years. Their four kids all attend CCSD at various attendance centers. Forke-Burke says Carroll has always been fortunate to have two tremendous school systems in town, but she is concerned that the push for continual improvement at CCSD might be slipping.
Another question appearing on the Nov. 7 ballot for voters is the renewal of the district’s instructional support levy (ISL). The levy is set to sunset in Fiscal Year (FY) 2025, and it generates around an additional $1 million per year for the district through an income surtax and property taxes. Forke-Burke says she is 100 percent behind renewing the ISL.
Whether casting ballots for the school board race or on the question of the ISL renewal, Forke-Burke encourages voters to make their choices based on what will most benefit Carroll students.
Forke-Burke is scheduled to appear alongside the six other candidates at the Carroll County Growth Partnership candidate forum on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at CHS. Those candidates include Jason Schagt, Stacey McCaulley, Jill Johnston, Jim Friel, Cindy Scaturico, and Sara Woerdehoff.
