Mary Jane Heuton, 86, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll with Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating. Music for the service will be by Jan Potthoff and Polly Eason. Casket bearers will be Nick Howlett, Corey Howlett, Pat Jenkins, Shawn Ausborn, Brett Foster, and Ben Fink. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale.
Visitation will be held at St. John Lutheran Church from 9:30 A.M. – 10:15 A.M. on Wednesday prior to the service.

Mary was born on February 3, 1937 in Carroll, IA, to Ed and Mayme (Schleisman) Bernholtz. She attended Mt Carmel grade school and graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1955. In 1958 she married Don Jorgensen, and to this union three children were born, Rick, Jeff, and Julie. Mary was united in marriage to Darrell Heuton in 1975 in Gillette, WY, and gained four more children, Dan, Deb, Darlene, and Doris. She was employed as an Insurance Agent with Western Agencies. They moved to Colorado City, CO, in 1982 and she was employed by SCA Insurance Agencies as a Commercial Insurance CSA for 13 years, retiring in 1996. Mary and Darrell moved to Carroll in 2016. She spent her summers gardening and canning with the joy of giving most of it away. The special times in her life were with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed playing golf and she and Darrell spent winters in Texas with many special friends. Mary had a gift of making people feel special and loved. She was so interested in everything they had going on in their lives and loved hearing about it.
Mary is survived by her children: Rick Jorgensen of Ames, Jeff (Cindy) Jorgensen of Ames, and Julie (Norman) Howlett of Beulah, CO; step-children: Dan (Mickey) Heuton, of Lanesboro, Deb (Al) Ausborn, of Lake City, and Doris (Scott) Fink of Truro; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Nyla Heuton of Carroll and Connie (Bernholtz) Zwick of Ft Meyers, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Darrell in 2022; her step-daughter Darlene Holm; brothers: Don Bernholtz and his wife Bev and Duane Bernholtz; sisters: Esther Galbraith and her husband Arnie Luchtel and Doris Determan and her husband Pete; nephews: Jack Determan and Steve Bernholtz and his wife Casey; her special niece Diane Ossenfort and her husband Denny; a brother-in-law Dean Heuton; and sisters-in-law: Delane Cleveland and Rosemary Heuton.
