Charges against a Montana man arrested for theft and burglary over the weekend have been dismissed. According to Carroll County District Court records, 41-year-old Winston Alexander Ritter of Bozeman, Mont. was booked into the Carroll County jail Saturday for second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and second-degree theft and possession of a firearm by a felon, class D felonies. Affidavits from the Carroll and Coon Rapids Police Departments say Ritter allegedly stole a 2001 Toyota Camry from a rural Coon Rapids home and illegally entered an agricultural warehouse in the 28000 block of 340th Street. He was arrested later that morning by the Carroll Police Department after an officer identified the stolen vehicle parked outside the Carroll Walmart. Ritter is also wanted on outstanding warrants out of Montana, and authorities there are willing to extradite him. Prosecutors opted to dismiss the local charges to expedite the process of extradition back to Montana, which is expected before Nov. 24. Ritter’s criminal history includes a 2016 conviction in Missoula County, Mont. for stealing an AR-15 rifle from a residence and pointing it at an officer. Authorities say Ritter faces a lengthy prison sentence following his return to Montana.
