A Carroll man who was the subject of a nearly 11-hour standoff that started on Sunday evening was booked into the Carroll County jail Tuesday on misdemeanor charges. According to criminal complaints filed by the Carroll Police Department, 37-year-old Perry Anders Edholm was taken into custody without incident on charges of first-degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor, and assault and first-offense trespassing, both simple misdemeanors. Officers were dispatched at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday to the 100 block of W. 12th Street following a report from a caller that Edholm had entered the victim’s residence without permission and allegedly threatened to kill her. Before law enforcement’s arrival on the scene, Edholm had returned to his home in the 1100 block of N. Adams Street and was non-compliant with officers when they attempted to question him about the reported incidents. The situation escalated when law enforcement learned Edholm possessed a firearm. Officials say he did not threaten law enforcement directly or brandish the firearm, but law enforcement backed away from the home out of an abundance of caution, leading to the hours-long standoff. That situation ended around 5 a.m. when law enforcement cleared the scene after determining Edholm was not a threat to the public. While not noted in court documents, alcohol is believed to have played a role in the circumstances leading up to and during the incident. As of Tuesday evening, Edholm remained in custody at the Carroll County jail, awaiting an appearance before a magistrate.
