Thelma Wernimont of Carroll

Thelma Wernimont, 99 of Carroll, died Sunday, January 7, 2024, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.  Burial will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Wednesday from 9:30-10:45 a.m.

Born on August 20, 1924, in Carroll, Iowa, Thelma was the daughter of John and Theresa (Kramer) Wiederin.  Thelma spent her entire lifetime in the Mt. Carmel Community and attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School.  She assisted her family on the farm and also babysat for several families in the area.  On November 18, 1952, Thelma was united in marriage to Leo Wernimont at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.  The couple made their home southeast of Mt. Carmel where she was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed tending to her garden, their apple orchard, flowers, and quilting.  Thelma was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.

Thelma is survived by her sisters: Iola Hoogestraat of Carroll and Lorraine Danner of Carroll; her brothers: Wilbur (Agnes) Wiederin of Lake City and Ralph (Helen) Wiederin of Carroll; her sister-in-law Marylyn Gillespie of Lake City; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leo Wernimont in 2007; her brothers: Linus, Floyd, Harold, and Alfred Wiederin; one sister, and one brother in infancy.
