Stanley Best of Glidden

Stanley B. Best, age 72, of Glidden, IA, passed away peacefully at his home after a short illness on Sunday, January 14, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll with Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating.  Music for the service will be by Jan Potthoff.  Casket bearers will be Mark Mapel, Jeff Blair, Noah Snyder, Brett Snyder, Dr. Dylan Rothmeyer, and Aden Burdine.  A luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall immediately following the funeral service.  Graveside services will be held at the Merle Hay Memorial  Cemetery in Glidden following the luncheon.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Wednesday.  The casket will be moved to St. John Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the service.

Stan, as he was known to most, was born on August 26, 1951 in Carroll, IA, to Charles and Althea (Gordhammer) Best.  He attended Glidden – Ralston Community School graduating with the class of 1969.  He then graduated from Iowa Central Community College in 1970 and worked at the Westbend Cooperative.  While living in Westbend he met Elaine Brumwell.  They were married and had two daughters.  The couple later divorced and  Stan was married to Mary Rothmeyer in December of 1986.  He worked for Farmers Cooperative in Glidden for many years. Stan was an excellent woodworker and cabinet maker, and known to be a perfectionist at his craft.

Stan is survived by his wife Mary of Glidden; daughter Megan Burdine (Nick) of Polk City; step-children: Dan Rothmeyer (Angi) of Carroll and Michelle Snyder (Cory) of Carroll.  Stan is also survived by nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister Carole Rose (Bob) of Grandview, MO; two brothers: Mike Best (Deb) of Onalaska, WI, and Brian Best (Sharon) of Glidden; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents Chuck and Althea Best.
