Barb Reiling, age 82 of Lake View, IA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA. Barbara Ann Bogue was born on August 27, 1941, to parents Walter and Dorothy (Phillips) Bogue in Lake View. She grew up on a farm with her parents and three brothers, Ron, Gary, and Bob. Barb attended country school through the fourth grade and then graduated from Lake View High School with the class of 1959.
On March 1, 1980, Barb was united in marriage to Jerry Reiling in Lake View. Combined, Jerry and Barb had four children: Tammy, Brian, Shell, and Travis. They raised their family in Lake View where Barb worked for several local businesses over the years. She and Jerry owned Jerry Reiling Equipment Sales and she worked alongside him selling parts for the business. The two of them retired in 2012.
Barb’s greatest joy was her family—immediate and extended family. She cherished every moment she got to spend with her grandchildren and great-granddaughters who lovingly call her “Granny.” She was born to be a grandma because she was a kid herself who never grew up. Barb kept in touch with all of her nieces and nephews and even great-nieces and nephews. Aunt Barb loved her nieces and nephews like her own, and she always had a great big hug to give them. Family time meant everything to her; she enjoyed the nights when her brother Bob and sissy Lori spent the night and played Aggravation. Barb looked forward to the get-togethers that were held when her brother Ron and his family traveled back to Iowa from California. Barb also cherished Thursday nights spent with Brian and Wanda, and her weekly visits with her friend for life, Betty Wessman.
Throughout the years, Barb enjoyed gardening. She had a flower garden that Martha Stewart would be proud of. She liked going fishing and camping; many family trips were taken in the old gray bus-turned-camper that Jerry overhauled. Barb also enjoyed her time spent as a member of Lake Riders Saddle Club. She was always up for playing cards and games with her family and loved trips to the casino. She bowled in league for several years and enjoyed playing Bingo. Barb really enjoyed attending school alumni banquets as it meant catching up and getting to spend time with her old classmates. She was a great cook and made the best fried chicken, maidrites, and potato salad.
Every morning, right out of bed, Barb turned the radio on. She loved music and always had it playing in the background. Her smile, contagious laugh, and her full-of-love hugs will be so very missed by her family and all that knew and loved her. She is now at peace, resting for eternity in God’s beautiful paradise with her “Dear” by her side.
Barb leaves behind her children, Tammy Ryan of Omaha, NE, Brian (Wanda) Brotherson of Lake View, IA, Shell Dornath (Lee) of Breda, IA, and Travis (Joni) Reiling of Webster City, IA; grandchildren: Dani (Wyatt) Murray of Shawnee, KS, Morgan Strauss of Okoboji, IA, Emily (Ryan) Nelson of Omaha, NE, Megan Ryan of Omaha, NE, Kena Mielk of Breda, IA, and Cole Reiling of Webster City, IA; great-grandchildren Everly and Mallory Murray; siblings Ron (Rosanne) Bogue of CA, Gary (Mary Jo) Bogue of Lake View, IA, and Bob (Lori) Bogue of Lake View, IA; mother-in-law Gwen Reiling of Fonda, IA; brothers-in-law Paul (Nancy) Reiling of Lake View, IA, and Brian (Denise) Reiling of Yetter, IA; sisters-in-law Joan Martin of Fonda, IA, Marilyn (Ken) Lonynachan of Knoxville, IA, Joyce Simpson of Windsor Heights, IA, Jane Reiling of Fonda, IA, and Nancy (Tim) McDonald of Pemberville, OH; best friends Betty Wessman and aunt Janet Boom; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
