The Carroll County Board of Supervisors has scheduled the public hearing for the county’s proposed 2024 property tax levies for its April 1 meeting. The supervisors will host two “meetings” that day. The first begins at 9 a.m. at the Swan Lake Conservation Education Center, and the only item of business will be the public hearing. The supervisors are moving into the last stages of finalizing the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 budget with a proposed urban levy of $4.60948 per $1,000 of taxable assessed valuation and a rural levy of $7.86428 per $1,000 of taxable assessed valuation. Following the public hearing, the supervisors will close the meeting and open a second one to handle the county’s routine business for the week. County officials note residents should begin receiving mailings regarding their property taxes by the week of March 25, if not sooner. If approved, the proposed property tax levy sets the ceiling for FY25 taxes, but the supervisors can go lower if the situation allows.
