The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an in-custody death reported at the Crawford County jail earlier this week. According to law enforcement, the Denison Police Department booked 61-year-old Abraham Gatwech Ngor of Denison at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, on charges of public intoxication and held him in a lone jail cell. At approximately 9 a.m. on Monday, May 6, jail staff discovered Ngor had become unresponsive while conducting a welfare check. Jailors, deputies, and Crawford County Emergency Medical Services conducted CPR on the subject before transporting him to Crawford County Memorial Hospital, where he later died. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office requested DCI investigate Ngor’s death. A forensic autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny.
