Carroll City Council Hosts Several Public Hearings At Monday’s Meeting For Merchants Park, City-Owned Property Sale, And Golfview Subdivision

The Carroll City Council will consider taking the next step in readying the Golfview subdivision for future development at Monday’s meeting. During their April 22 meeting, city officials approved the first reading of a zoning change from A-1, general agriculture, to R-3, low-density residential, for the nine lots on the west side of the Carroll Municipal Golf Course. City Manager Aaron Kooiker says they have a way to go before any negotiations with developers or construction could begin.

Residents have expressed concern over the development’s estimated $1.7 million price tag. Kooiker agrees that the figure seems large, but he says it is doubtful the council would move forward if that were the city’s cost.

He adds that nothing has been formalized yet, but several developers are already interested in the land and could build far more than nine homes in the new subdivision.

The council will also host a public hearing on the plans, specifications, form of contract, and estimated cost for the $1.2 million renovations planned at Merchants Park. Kooiker says the project has been in the works for several years, and the city is now in the final stages.

Other items on Monday’s agenda include a public hearing for the proposed sale of city-owned property at 1114 N. Main St. to PKDW LLC for future development, a voluntary annexation and development agreement for 11 acres of land on the northwest edge of Carroll for the construction of a 6,000+ sq. ft. Echo Group electric supply warehouse, two new infill housing incentive applications, and more. The Monday, May 13 meeting begins at 5:15 p.m. at Carroll City Hall.
