Authorities in Ida County continue to investigate a shooting reported prior to the holiday weekend. According to Ida County Sheriff Wade Harriman, law enforcement was notified of a shots-fired incident in the 300 block of 5th Street in Battle Creek at approximately 11:14 a.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, deputies located 53-year-old Kevin Lee Blume of Battle Creek, suffering from a single gunshot wound. Blume was treated at the scene by Ida County Emergency Medical Services and was later airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. An inquiry into the incident is ongoing. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Woodbury and Monona County Sheriff’s Offices are also assisting in the investigation.
