A Carroll man was taken into custody yesterday (Thursday) for allegedly stealing over $3,000 worth of cash and merchandise from his place of employment in the 800 block of E Highway 30. According to court records, between May 24 and May 30, 20-year-old Damarius Billmeier was viewed on video footage taking money from customers, placing it in his pocket, filling boxes with merchandise, and leaving the store without paying for it. Billmeier stole approximately $685 in physical money and around $2,500 in merchandise. Billmeier was arrested and charged with second-degree theft, a class D felony. He has since been released from custody but is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 27. A class D felony in Iowa carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
