Helen Warnke of Carroll

Helen Warnke of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024 in Carroll, IA, surrounded by family.
     Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll.  Casket bearers will be her sons: Greg Forbes and Steve Forbes; her grandson Paul Forbes; and friends: Dan Tigges, Gene Grade, and Jay Woodhouse.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
    Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Friday.  Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. – 10:15 A.M. prior to the service.

    Helen was born on January 3, 1935, in Mascott, WI, to John and Pearl (Hall) DeVries. Helen was raised and attended school in northwestern Wisconsin and attended business school.  Helen moved to Carroll in 1962.  She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Bible School. Helen worked as an accountant for Mid-Iowa Insurance for 28 years until her retirement in 2000.  She never missed a school event or sporting event for her three sons.  On April 22, 1988, she was married to Victor Warnke at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The couple traveled extensively, visiting many states and destinations such as the Bahamas and Costa Rica. They wintered in Texas for over 20 years and enjoyed taking trips to Mexico.  She enjoyed doing things with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They were so special to her and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Helen is survived by two sons:  Greg Forbes and Steven (Theresa) Forbes, a step-son Benton Warnke; daughter-in-law Jane Forbes; her grandchildren: Mia, Paul (Andrea), and Rachel; step-grandchildren: Mercedes and Jacob Warnke; her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Luca, Noah, Jonah, and twins Oda and Ezra; along with numerous nieces and nephews; and many good friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pearl DeVries, three brothers: Emmett, Marvin, and Dale; two sisters: Leone and Ines; her husband Victor Warnke on November 28, 2023; her son Scott Forbes on December 29, 2023; and her grandson Parker Forbes on February 8, 2024.
