A New Sidewalk-Cost-Share Program Is Available For Residents In Glidden

The City of Glidden is participating in a new program, allocating $30,000 to help residents repair or build sidewalks throughout town. The City council approved the sidewalk-cost-share program during the last meeting, but this has been discussed since December last year. City Administrator Brooke Peterson says the council was receptive to the idea in 2023 but just wanted to gather more information to see if this program would be a great fit for the Glidden community.

Glidden residents wishing to participate can submit a contractor’s or materials estimate and the building permit to the city council for approval. Peterson says once the project is completed, the individual will be reimbursed the approved amount from the city’s Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) fund, which is allocated for the initiative.

This sidewalk-cost-share program went into effect yesterday (Monday), with the start of the new fiscal year. Peterson encourages those considering a sidewalk project to contact City Hall.

If the program goes over well and enough individuals participate, city council members said they would be willing to continue and provide more funding in future fiscal years.
