Carol “Mickey” Orcutt of Carroll

Carol “Mickey / Mema” Orcutt, age 79, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll, IA, with Pastor Ryan Roehrig and Vicar Tanner Sutcliffe officiating.  Organist for the service will be Abe Batten.

Casket bearers will be Matt Orcutt, Brad Orcutt, Ben Baugous, Sean Orcutt, Cody Orcutt, and Lucas Orcutt.  Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5:00 – 6:30 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M.  The casket will be moved to St. Paul Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the service.

Carol who was affectionately known as Mickey and Mema to family and friends was born on May 4, 1945 in Tacoma, WA, and she was the daughter of Ethan and Dorothy (Chandler) Akin.  She moved to Iowa as a young girl and graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids.  Mickey was married to Lew Orcutt on November 10, 1962 at the Marion Christian Church in Marion, IA.  The couple moved to Burns, OR, where Lew was stationed in the Air Force.  Mickey had several jobs in Oregon.  The couple also lived in California, Washington, Germany, and Nevada with Lew’s military service.  Upon his retirement they moved to Barrett, MN for five years before moving to Carroll in 1986.  She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll where she taught Sunday school.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, crafts, painting, writing, bird watching, along with many other interests.

Mickey is survived by her husband Lew of Carroll; a daughter Tammra Baugous (Ben) of LeMars, IA; two sons: Matt Orcutt (Kris) of Olympia, WA, and Brad Orcutt (Heather) of Sac City, IA; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two twin sisters-in-law: Ellen Pithan (Bill) of Lost Nation, IA, and Elaine Orcutt of Marion, IA; a brother-in-law Jim Herdrich of Fort Madison, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

Mickey was preceded in death by her parents Ethan and Dorothy Akin; her father and mother-in-law: Charles and Myrtle Orcutt; a sister Kay Wecther; and a brother-in-law Tom Orcutt (Fern); and a sister-in-law DeEtta Herdrich.
