The Wall Lake Fire and Rescue Department has been awarded a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant to purchase new sets of bunker gear. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant assists fire departments and other non-affiliated emergency medical services in buying crucial equipment, protective gear, and vehicles and provides training and other resources to continue to protect and serve communities. A total of 929 awards were granted throughout the country, totaling $152 million. The Wall Lake Fire Department was given $38,857 to purchase 12 new sets of protective gear. Region XII Council of Governments assisted the department in the grant-writing process. Wall Lake Fire and Rescue was one of 14 organizations in Iowa that were accepted for funding.
