The Sac City Hometown Pride committee is raising funding to add a new “musical” amenity to the beloved Riverview Playground in Sac City. The current equipment at the park has been there since the late 70’s but will continue to remain there to represent the community’s history and be cherished by now adults who grew up playing on the equipment. Committee Chair Curtis Bloes (Blaze) says the organization was just looking to add a new piece to the park to offer different interactive playground equipment with a special meaning behind it.
Stage one of the project will involve installing nine instruments that thirteen people can play simultaneously. Bloes says the instruments are made from recyclable steel and durable enough to withstand outdoor use.
The cost for the first phase of the playground is $24,500, with the committee raising $13,010 of that. Bloes says anyone wishing to donate to get them to their fundraising goal, can send or drop off their donation at the Sac City State Bank.
The project’s second phase will include the purchase of an $8,000 instrument called an Imbarimba, a 22-note instrument combination between a marimba (xylophone) and a kalimba (thumb piano). Once fundraising is complete, the new instruments will be installed, allowing for more memories to be cherished and made at Sac City’s Historic Riverview Playground. Pictures of the instruments can be found included below.
