The Carroll County Board of Supervisors has fast-tracked an ordinance change to adjust sewer rates for customers of the Maple River Wastewater System. The board hosted a public hearing Monday on the proposed increase in monthly fees from $55 to $75 and did not receive any comments for or against the change. The supervisors unanimously approved the ordinance’s first reading, waived the second and third readings, and formally adopted the new language. The ordinance will officially go into effect following its publication, and the rate change will be reflected in Maple River customers’ bills in October. County officials say the rate increase is necessary to address long-term financial sustainability concerns for the rural utility.
