The City of Audubon is finalizing a contract with the Region XII Council of Governments (COG) for rental property inspections. Per city ordinance, landlords must obtain an annual permit to rent a house or apartment. Region XII will conduct an inspection of each rental property before a permit is approved. The inspection ensures each rental property complies with rental standards and is deemed a safe place to live in with no potential hazards. If violations are found during the inspection, landlords will be given a notice to fix the issues before a second scheduled inspection. If the noted problems are not fixed or up to code after a second inspection, a renter’s permit is unable to be approved. This is a mandatory procedure for all Audubon rental properties and any landowner not in compliance will face fines per violation.
