The water tower in Lanesboro is coming down this week as the city finishes its transfer off its local, aging infrastructure. Contractors are expected to be on-site as early as tomorrow (Wednesday) to demolish the small storage tower at the intersection of Park, Heitland, and 1st Streets on the southeast side of town. Lanesboro residents have struggled with water quality issues in recent years as the old system struggled to remove contaminants from the supply. Due to the cost-prohibitive nature of repairing the existing system or constructing a new one, Lanesboro city officials partnered with Lake City to provide the community’s water through the construction of an eight-mile pipeline, which began operations this summer.
