A Carroll Man Enters Plea Agreement For A Felony Charge Of Second Degree Criminal Mischief

A Carroll man has entered a plea agreement of second-degree criminal mischief after breaking slabs of stone at a local business. On June 21, 20-year-old Aven Vandenburg was taken into custody after video evidence showed him damaging slabs of stone that were outside a business located in the 900 block of U.S Hwy 30 in Carroll. The damages to the three polished concrete slabs are estimated at around $5,193, classifying the offense as a class D felony. Per the agreement, Vandenburg will accept the sentencing for the felony charge, pay a victim restitution for damages caused, and the State will move to dismiss a criminal mischief charge in the third-degree charge. The dismissed aggravated misdemeanor was for a previous offense, with the damage caused to the interior of a Carroll Police Department squad car after being detained. A pre-sentencing investigation has been ordered, with a plea hearing scheduled at the Carroll County Court House on Oct. 10. Vandenburg is facing a sentence of up to five years in prison and $7,500 in additional fines.
