Second Annual Glidden Kids Power Wheels Nationals Is This Weekend

Picture from City of Glidden Facebook page

With no rain forecasted for this weekend, all young racers are invited to the second annual Glidden Power Wheels Nationals, hosted by the Parks and Rec Department this Saturday. What started as an idea inspired by a similar event in another town turned into community-supported races for children aged two to nine. Mike Schultze, director of parks and recreation, says businesses throughout Glidden have stepped up to make sure that every child who wants to participate has a chance to.

There will be two separate divisions: stock class for two— to nine-year-olds wishing to drive a non-modified power wheel and outlaw class for five— to nine-year-olds who want a little more power added to their rides.

Schultze says it’s free to participate in and to watch. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each heat, and grand prize drawings are scheduled for after the races.

Even a local organization is stepping up to help raise funding for a family in the Glidden community.

Again, Glidden’s Kids Power Wheels Nationals is at Glidden City Park this Saturday. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the green flag will be waved at 11 a.m. Further questions can be directed to Schultze or Brooke Peterson at City Hall by calling 712-659-3010.
