Gov. Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation yesterday (Tuesday) to support Iowa’s Hurricane Helene response efforts. The proclamation eases transportation restrictions for repair crews and materials passing through Iowa en route to affected areas. Effective immediately, the declaration also temporarily suspends specific Iowa Code regulations, including provisions related to service hours, weight limits, and registration requirements for drivers and electrical repair crews involved in disaster response efforts. The proclamation is set to expire on Oct. 31. The devastating hurricane has killed at least 160 people after it made landfall last week in Florida and swept north through Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee, leaving behind widespread damage and flooding. Response teams from across the country have been activated to assist in the short-term recovery efforts. A link to the governor’s proclamation is included below.
