Some locals were treated to an unusual light show in the sky last night (Thursday) thanks to increased solar activity. The pink and green colors, more commonly known as the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis, are generally associated with latitudes far to the north. However, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says higher-than-normal solar storms resulted in increased interference in the upper atmosphere from solar winds, which pushed the viewing window for the Northern Lights into Iowa. The NOAA says the solar storm is forecasted to continue into tonight (Friday), so the lights could be visible again.
