John Meyer of Carroll

John Henry Meyer, age 94, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024, at Addington Place in Carroll.
    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 21, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Ryan Roehrig officiating assisted by Simon Niemtschk.  Casket bearers will be Kelly Meyer, James Meyer, Carl Meyer, Levi Meyer, Sam Nerem, and Kurt Rohrbeck.  Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.
    Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5–7 P.M. on Sunday.  The casket will be moved to St. Paul Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the service.

     John was born in Carroll County on September 13, 1930 to Hye and Alma (Kruse) Meyer.  He learned to farm at an early age living his entire life on the Meyer Family Farm north of Lidderdale. His farming career started with a team of draft horses and blossomed into powered machinery.  John was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church near Glidden.  He attended country school as a boy.  In 1952, he met and married Donna Hunt. They raised four children. He continued to farm well past retirement and until recently, resided on the farm in the house that he originally built with his father.  Besides raising crops, he was a dairy farmer, raised hogs and cattle and even chickens. He and Donna were avid Square Dancers and later joined a Polka Club, which entertained multiple organizations across the state. He loved playing cards and never turned down a chance to play 10 point pitch.
     John is survived by his wife, Donna, 4 children: Larry Meyer (Madonna), Nina Sturm (Dale), Don Meyer (Denise), and Susan Christensen (Chris); 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Marion Prill and Evelyn Church; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
     John was preceded in death by his parents Hye and Alma Meyer; his father and mother-in-law Carl and Beryl Hunt; a sister-in-law Erla Wojner (Chet); and two brothers-in-law: Richard Prill and Ken Church.
