The City of Manson welcomes a new Chief of Police following the retirement of Larry Freese. Jessica Hammen, from Twin Lakes, has been sworn into the position during last week’s city council meeting. Hammen grew up near Wiley, graduating from Carroll High School before moving to Sac City to work for Landus Cooperative. After a year of working part-time for Webster County Jail, Hammen pursued a career in law enforcement with the Iowa Falls Police Department in 2017. After attending the Law Enforcement Academy, Hammen served as Deputy Sheriff for the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office until accepting the position of Chief of Police for the City of Manson. Hammen says, “My vision as Chief of Police for the City of Manson is to become transparent with the community and effectively engage in community policing. I want to know what the community wants, and in return, I want the community to feel they have been heard.” City officials welcome Hammen into her new role and congratulate Freese on retirement after 37 years of service in law enforcement.
