Iowans can now add their driver’s license or state ID to Apple Wallet, making it easier to present identification on iPhones or Apple Watches securely. This new feature allows users to conveniently show their ID at select airports, businesses, and venues across the U.S. Adding a license or ID to Apple Wallet is simple. Users tap the plus (+) button in Wallet, select “Driver’s License or State ID,” and follow the setup instructions. The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) receives only the necessary information for approval. The new feature ensures security by encrypting ID information on the user’s device. IDs can then be presented in person by holding an iPhone or Apple Watch near a reader, using Face ID or Touch ID to verify. The feature is also available in select apps supporting Apple Wallet verification. This option complements the Iowa Mobile ID app and existing physical IDs, with more businesses expected to accept mobile IDs in the future.
