Iowa Fuel Report: Oct. 23, 2024

Fuel prices in Iowa are back below the $3 mark in this week’s report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, Oct. 23, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.96, a five-cent drop from last week’s price and 35 cents below prices from a year ago. The national average on Wednesday was down four cents to $3.16 per gallon. Retail diesel prices in Iowa dipped one cent to a $3.43 per gallon statewide average, compared to $4.62 per gallon a year ago. Local prices remain 16 cents below the $3.59 national average. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged at $2.16. In heating fuels, natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site dropped 10 cents to $2.31 per MMBtu. Propane prices held steady at $1.54 per gallon, while home heating oil fell 10 cents to $2.86 per gallon.
